In Sheffield (UK) a vital link through the station is being threatened by East Midlands Trains.
This video explains what the thinking was when the bridge across the station was built. It is part of a larger video that was made for promotional reaons.
The bridge forms an important pedestrian link between communities and the city centre. East Midlands Trains is planning to gate the bridge, so that free access would be prevented. A protest group (RASC- Residents against Station Closure) is trying to maintain this vital link.

This video shows clearly what was in the minds of all concerned when Sheffield money was put in to this project.
The footbridge is highly valued and well used. It is inclusive to all...wheelchair-users and the walking disabled via the lifts.
Everyone, apart from unelected bodies like EMT and Lord Adonis, opposes the barriers and seek to keep the footbridge open to all.
Those against do not live in Sheffield and so, as Jake Kelly (EMT) says, do not care about the loss to Sheffielders.
