With the occupation of southern Macedonia by Greece in 1912-13. Greece needs its occupied Macedonian territory and created new propaganda to claim the ancient Macedonians as “Greek” Such propaganda is needed to justify the present occupation. This stealing of the Macedonian history by the Greeks is resented by the Macedonians who have long before the Greeks claimed descent from Alexander, and still do.This fact certainly does not give them the "copyright" of the name MACEDONIA.

Macedonia always has been conflict zone between the countries on the Balkans, and never really independent place.
Today it's people are trying to build a nation, but ofcourse they prefer to have some ancient roots and history (who does not?)
And the easiest way is to twist a little a real facts...some from Greek others from Bulgarian history..
This was very easy in the past - no mass media existed :) But today it is embarasing...

The chief European parliament interlocutor in Macedonian affairs calls this(the renaming of the airport) an outright provocation: 'Alexander the Great is not a part of their Slavic macedonian history, and everybody could know that it should be a provocation towards greece to use this name for this humiliating airport, small airport. It's a crazy choice to do so. So, I think one of the first things for the Macedonian government is to call it again Petrovitch instead of Alexander the Great.'
