A video from the 15inch gauge Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway in Kent, which held a Steam & Diesel Gala over the weekend of Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October 2009. The video is from the Sunday.

Locos Nos. 1 Green Goddess, 2 Northern Chief, 3 Southern Maid, 6 Samson, 7 Typhoon, 8 Hurricane, 9 Winston Churchill, 11 Black Prince and 14 Captain Howey were all in action on the 4th, working the very intensive timeable. I visited two areas on the RH&DR, the area around Botolphs Bridge Level Crossing (near Hythe) and Britannia Points (Dungeness).

The Sunday featured a parallel run, which is seen at the very start. I was hoping the two trains, headed by Typhoon and Black Prince, would draw level with each other before Botolphs Bridge Level Crossing. Sadly, this was not the case and the two were level just a few metres behind me.

  • One of the best videos of the line I've seen Craig, low camera angles, great location and beautiful weather al contributing to this excellent work...5* Bob

  • Thanks very much Bob, very much appreciated!

  • Brilliant video Craig, the RH&DR is a great line I really wanna go back! Nice opening shot, but like you say pitty they weren't parrell or Black Prince that little bit ahead so that you would of captured both locos. Nice shots at the bridge with the sun shining back off the locos. 5*s

  • Thanks alot mate. The RH&DR is certainly a great line. So unique too which makes it even greater! Regarding the parallel run, I would've stood nearer to the crossing, but didn't really want the crossing sirens blaring over the video constantly. Next time I know to stand a lot close to the crossing, regardless of sirns and what not! The bridge shots were probably my favourite shots of the day, especially the one of Hurricane. Thanks again!

  • Excellent video of a fine looking day out! 5* Thanks for sharing. - Mike

  • Cheers Cameron. Was certainly a great event. Had I gone the day before (couldn't go on the Saturday as I was on DEMU 1001 to Worcester) I might've had a couple of rides, which I kind of wish I did now.

  • Thank you Chris!

  • ive been on that, way, way, way back when!!!
