Quick question. In your example with the pen, you calculate the HR as 130 but right on the cardiogram it says pulse is 106..... am I missing something?

I am an ER physician and have never seen nor heard of the pen method. I will be putting that to good use. Nice video. Kudos for accuracy.

@Amanda9993 Thank you for your estimation. I would recommend to use a BIC pen with a cap on it's back, so it will be ~15 cm (what we actually need for being accurate).
P.S. It's not a BIC commercial.

Hello I'm a nursing student and we were taught to count P waves? Is that wrong? or is that only for sinus rhythms? Any input would be extremely helpful!!! Kinda having a hard time with ECG strips.

@FreefallingRee This is not wrong. The question is, if this wave is P or something else. For example, in atrial fibrillation there are f waves, (it is not P), in atrial flutter you have to count F waves (it looks like P ways sometimes). Anyway, the recognition of what you see on ECG (P/Q/R/S/T/U, or F,f waves are not an easy task in some situations.
