This song is from my album "Songs from the Locked Ward," written and recorded in the summer of 2009.

I wrote it as a testament to the horrors people suffer at the hands of psychiatry---the lack of empathy, the forced medication, the involuntary hospitalizations, the pseudoscience of psychiatric studies, the lies about genetic causes of mental problems, the corrupt ties of researchers to Big Pharma, the shallow and emotionally blind therapists, the denial of trauma, and the denial of full recovery, to name a few .

As a therapist, I've heard these stories---in painful detail---from my patients all too many times.

A few notes: I mention E. Fuller Torrey, the author of "Surviving Schizophrenia," in this song. I find his biological and forced treatment point of view repugnant. He's on Youtube, so you can see him for yourself.

I also mention Peter Breggin. He's a radical psychiatrist and heroic critic of psychiatry. He's also on Youtube---and I've put up some video interviews of him as well.

Enjoy!

And if you're interested, my album "Songs from the Locked Ward" is available for purchase at www.iraresoul.com

It's full of lots of poignant songs...

  • Bullshit ... Scientology ???

  • @Twitystar11 nope, this video has nothing to do with scientology. i think scientology is dangerous.

  • LOL you guys are idiots. Tell a schizophrenic or a person with major depression that they don't need medication. What grounds do you have to criticize a profession of hard working physician?? Please... At least read the clinical studies on the latest SSRIs and benzodiazepines before you dismiss the- Also, you need a court order to 'involuntarily commit' somebody and that can only occur if there is history or intent of physical violence or suicide.

  • @persianelephant --- it sounds like you believe the messages put forth by psychiatry. however, there is a wealth of clinical and anecdotal evidence (that is, scientific evidence) offering direct contradiction to many of the basic tenets of modern psychiatry. a good place to start might be to read robert whitaker's books "anatomy of an epidemic" or "mad in america." even many traditional psychiatrists are taking note.

  • Man, those corrupt pharma companies and doctors... at least the creator of this video is honest and not seeking any profit. I mean, it's not like hes a therapist and sees psychiatrists as competition... oh wait.

  • @Chopduel ---don't be too jaded---i quit being a therapist.

  • I love you! That was great!

  • lolz what a random video with but if i say its good i have lack of insight

  • @mumenschantz I'm basically off them, but the damage regretfully is done. My tremors continue to get worse and i have truly had my personality taken away, i'm just numb to everything, emotionally, i feel little to nothing. I appreciate the advice though.

  • Yeah dude, they did the same shit to me, I never took the meds, they just want to lobotomize you for being stupid. Haha.

  • I've been mentally ill my whole life and on meds for a great part of it, I will need meds till the day I die. I have a fantastic pdoc - and I found the clip hilarious. I saw it as a sendup of everything we go through. They may have wanted to portray an anti med, anti pych perspective, but it just took all the falliblies of mental health "care", condensed it, extrapolated it... and came out with comedy. The system is sicker than what we will ever be, but I still swear by my meds and my pdoc!

  • OMG!!! The only bigger bullshit than this is the DSM

  • Brilliant, and sooooo truthful.

    Thank you.xoxoxo<3<3<3

  • articles showing how they label everyone the same way, with drugs that hurt the brain and body far more is the problem...just google antipsychotics, Electroshock, you evenually may start seeing the quackery of psychiatry, as it's practiced today...not saying mental illnesses can't be real, or are not.

  • @persianelephant clearly you don't know the dangers of hte meds, the meds destroy the brains more than the disease, not saying schizophrenia is not a complex problem, that isn't torture, and we need solutions, however, if you keep up on the latest you ma yrealize that 10% of Americans, as but one example, have psychosis, they would all be labeled the same labels, but it can go away...however Whitaker he's no scientologist, and even the major hospitals, APA,

  • @dmackler58 I have been a guinea pig of modern psychiatric medicine for almost 2 decades now.I would of called this guy an idiot as little as 5 years ago, because when i got of my meds i felt terrible, and when i got back on them i felt ok..i didnt know about dependence/tolerance/withdrawal...

their is a great "placebo" effect with these meds for some..and the neurotransmitters they effect are responsible for alot of things besides mood..

  • @persianelephant here's a clinical study for you. i have been diagnosed with more things than i can count. schizophrenia severe depression included. that medicin did nothing but make me worse mentaly and when i told the doctor they would increase the dose! it wasn't until i had a heart condition and had to be rushed to the hospital and nearly DIED from taking 5 types of pills that weren't supposed to go togather! the heart doctor told me to stop the medicine, never been better!

  • Oh, and I never had a history or intent of physical violence or suicide when I was commited or any other time. The only thing my parents listed as wrong was cussing at my dad over the phone during an argument, an argument over his drinking so they said I was mentally unstable, and the judge sided with them. The doctor made fabrications in my medical file, which I'm currently undoing through talking to my psychiatrist and a lawsuit.

  • I was involuntarilly commited to a mental hospital. While there the doctor listened to my complaint about a chemical injury which burned the skin of my feet, all of which was documented at work. He listed in his report, "patient believes a chemical has infiltrated his body and is causing damage" as a delusion. I never have had delusions, paranoia, or hearing voices ever, nor did I report these ever. I'm currently in litigation for punitive damages for my doctor not investigating or lying.

  • @dmackler58

Thanks for the upload. This song is so true. Unfortunately, i am a victim of psych meds and have tremors and feel all kinds of fucked up. People, this song has a light tone to it, but it's words are very very true. I wish we could make psychiatrists test their product before recommending it. But big pharma, wall street, money, the root of all evil. It's a damn shame, the damage they do to the human mind is truly inhumane.

  • I love this song!

  • @dmackler58 I thought so. Scientology has the same views because.

  • Brilliant

  • this song is funny hehehe

  • I am "bi polar" ~ Yes pills are probably over prescribed, but a good dose has helped me. I was diagnosed bipolar a couple years ago and had huge ups and downs. I used to be on too much medication making me sleepy/numb, but over the past year I have been cutting down to 1/6 the medicine, I feel great and I am in control of my mental state. Message me if you want to bounce ideas or anything
