Dub Trio are a live dub band. These New York City-based
musicians formed in early 2003 and quickly earned a
reputation of being one of the HARDEST rhythm sections
around. Dub Trio are Joe Tomino on drums/melodica, Stu
Brooks on bass/keyboards, and DP Holmes on guitar/keyboards.
Collectively, the members of Dub Trio have traveled around
the world each fervently exposing their innovative
approaches to their instruments and their music. They have
been billed alongside legendary artist's such as Burning
Spear, Steel Pulse, The Wailers, The Meditations, Yellowman,
The Roots, James Brown, Medeski, Martin & Wood, and others.
About a year ago, when Dub Trio had time away from their
busy schedules, they booked club gigs (Knitting Factory,
Tonic, NuBlu, etc..) around NYC as a nameless band
performing LIVE dub style reggae. They became well known as
the "Dub Trio," merely a description fans would use to refer
to them as.
Dub Trio brings dub to life. Usually, it is during long
mixing sessions that truly transform music into a
dub/version, but Dub Trio are unique in that they create
their original dub sound in real-time on stage! With their
massive sound, the drums and bass lay down a thick bed of
wicked riddims in a variety of reggae styles while radically
altering the music with extreme fades, reverbs, filters and
echoes. Meanwhile, DP Holmes masterfully takes the listener
to unchartered sonic territories with his guitar and non-
guitar-like sounds. Dub Trio's music honors a tradition
while concurrently pushing the standards of dub music.
Dub Trio's captivating live show brings their music to the
dance floor and beyond, appealing to lovers of dub/reggae,
electronic, rock, and jazz. Dub Trio have been an integral
part of the resurgence of dub in New York City and have been
coined by reggae veterans and dub specialists as "true dub
masters".
Encouraged by the hype surrounding the band, Dub Trio headed
into the studio to record their first official release (due
on in early fall 2004 on ROIR). Dub Trio will no doubt be a
mainstay on the international scene, re-pioneering the music
of LIVE dub.
