Ugly duckling Miriam Knight (Stockard Channing) is constantly teased about her appearance. After a horrible car accident, she awakens in hospital to discover herself transformed into a beautiful woman. With a new lease on life, Miriam vows to take revenge on her past tormentors, one by one.

Hot on her trail is Detective Ralph Varone (Ed Asner), determined to catch her red-handed.

Written by Joan Rivers, this cult classic black comedy is an amusing, yet quite accurate portrayal of the superficiality of beauty standards in Western society. This film was one of Stockard Channing's first appearances on screen and would become part of her long and versatile career.

I really loved her attitude, despite the way everybody treated her, she still seemed outgoing and kept a positive attitude

God everyone is just about an asshole in this movie except Miriam, as a guy I've been in her shoes before, only I didn't transfer from college to college like she did, I just stuck it out until it was over.
