Birmingham City Football Club Vs. Aston Villa Football Club.

Soccernet.com says of the inccident-

Was installed as the club's number one, and performed admirably until the derby at Birmingham City in mid-September. With the score at 1-0, Olof Mellberg took a thrown-in and played the ball to Enckelman.

The goalkeeper misjudged the bounce of the ball, it scraped the underside of his boot and went into the back of the net, producing one of the most bizarre goals in the history of football.

It was very unclear as to wether the 'keeper did touch the ball, but referee David Elleray gave the goal and the game was dead. A horrendous mistake.

  • the best thing about it is the crowd's reaction

  • It was a horrendous mistake by referee Elleray as Enckelman didn´t touch the ball. The goal should have been disallowed.

  • i wonder if enckelman really did touch it? if he didnt it shouldve been a corner. yes, a corner.

  • @thelynchpin24 How do you know he didn't touch it?

  • Enckelman is great goalkeeper, thats why he plays for st. johnstone, and isnt even their first keeper as well

  • at the end of the day, this shouldn't have been a goal. ridiculous, yes. fair, no. he didn't touch it - you can't score directly from a throw-in. really unfortunate for him.

  • @DarkViIIain There you go again talking about history, come on mate, wake up and smell the bacon - you are NOTHING now and as far as I`m aware its NOW that counts! Come on Liverpool, beat the scum and help them into the relegation zone with Wolves!
