i love this movie it makes me cry every time i watch it. My favorite part was when the nazi came in and was nice to splitzman (or how ever you spell his name) and then he played the piano for the nazi (i guess some of the germans had a heart). I just broke down in tears when the nazi started to help splitzman after that. love this movie.

Same reason they gave the best actress award to gwyneth paltrow and not to cate blanchett in 1998. paltrow had four films coming out that very same year, so giving her the best actress award would ensure that people would want to see those films, the oscars are ultimately for the industry, not art. all those producers/investor want to profit. but cate deserved that award hands down.

Thank you for posting this. I think this is one of the best films ever made. A masterpiece. It should have won best picture at the Oscars. But the industry people wanted to help the producers of 'Chicago' get back their investment. They scratch each other's backs. How much can they get from giving the best pic to Polanski?

An awesome masterpiece of a film, I had no idea what to expect when on a lark I decided to watch this tonight. Adrien Brody is a master actor in this role, the lengths he must go to through this film are incredible. I was hooked from beginning through the last piano note, lost in the film & shocked to be returned to present day when the credits rolled. WOW. However, there are no subtitles for the German parts, I wish I'd known what they were saying that last 30 minutes.
