Oh... because Georgia was annexed by Russia, which disappeared from the map. His last name was Balanchivadze. He changed his last name because for English speakers it is hard to prounounce Georgian names. If you tell Russians Balanchini was Russian, they / some of them would not like it.

  • It is during the party in the first act. Drossylmeyer brings out these dolls to dance. The Columbine is one of them.

  • Ok let's break up this argument about choreography for a moment shall we? Can someone tell me about the character Colombina? The dance is quite cute! Hahaaa! I love it! I've never seen the nutcracker before . . what's happening at this moment?

  • Yes you are right, it is Russian famous Choreographer Yury Grigorovich's Choreography "Nutkracker". As for Balanchine, he is sure Georgian, but he was born and raised in St. Petersburg in Family of fameous Georgian Composer Meliton Balanchivadze.

  • I am gonna go ahead and tell yall that George Balanchine was born in St. Petersburg which I dont beleive was formerly in the country of Georgia.....In the dance world everyone knows he came from Russia... This doesnt even really look like his choreography...is it?

  • yes it is not balanchines choreography, but it is choreography from his country,so if it is interresting for someonoe, great! if not he can pass by,thats all.

we could avoid speaking about georgia if in the beginning u could accept simple fact that Balanchine was georgian(or georgian american if u prefere)but i guess u are to fanatical about that.

u know calling someone moron does not make u any smarter, swearing in internet is one of most shamefull things.beqause noone can kick your ass here

  • fact that he denied hes homeland, does meen nothing beqause every emigrant (at least well known) do that,it was requird by american polytics, and i dont blame them,it was cold war,but now it is ower and we are not politics.one reason that balanchine was so outstanding, and his choregraphy was like nothing seen before, was that he was from country with old and original dance and culture, and honorable spirit, but sadly for u only thig is interresting and important: "he was american!" it's fanatism!

  • if u would agree about Balanchine being georgian in the begining, it would be possible to talk about this videos labeling, but but i dont want to discuss anything with man who cant accept simple fact, taht Balanchine was georgian, if u could have real interest about him, and not just fanatical desire to trust that he was not georgian, then perhaps it would be another interresting fact that he was georgian, that he iven used some stuff from georgian folk dance in his choreography, and many more

  • This video is labeled "George Balanchine" incorrectly and milseadingly...which was my first statement...a fact of TRUTH that you contine to ignore and justify with backwards logic.
