  • Hi neighbor, you are correct, J2 and J3 Cubs had no flaps. Not until the later PA-18 Super Cubs did they have flaps. Ron could explain all that stuff to you. He's a Piper guy. The placard says "Solo from rear seat only"

  • Thanx. Havn't been flying the old girl much lately as I've been flying a PA-18-150 I just finished restoring.

  • Lone Rock Wisconsin

  • I've flown my cub to Oshkosh many times, though never during Airventure. It's nice to here a young man appreciate the old low and slow flying. Stop down to Klnr some time and we'll go up. Was hoping to fly a Super Cub I just finished restoring up to Oshkosh this week, but that doesn't look like that's going to happen :(

  • The first RC airplane I built was a Cub. Now I fly one! I'd sell it for 30k.

  • Very nice video...Thanks for sharing :)

  • I learned to fly in anchorage in 1953 and 4 mostly in j 3 cubs on wheels and skis. The j 3 had no flaps so we learned to slip if the approach was too high. they sold some of the cubs in 1955 for 1 thousand dllars each. Ialways thought of the cub as the model Tof airplanes.

  • @MOTOPETE159 I flew a J-3 for some years. I later flew the Super Cub (although it was on floats). The planes didn't share a lot in common in my opinion. Yes, the J-3 soloed from the rear which is why J-3 pilots always cock their head to one side on landing. :) Can't say I loved the J-3 though. With its low wing loading even on a calm day you felt like a cork in the ocean. The Aeronca Champ was more enjoyable to fly in my opinion, although not as cool looking. -Robert

  • Hey there "neighbor" (I'm learning at KOVS in Boscobel) I was wondering, do the Cubs have flaps? I've never seen one in person but for some reason I was thinking no. Also what does the plaque on the panel say? Something about the back seat?

Beautiful plane by the way; love the old taildraggers!

  • nice plane ,like a dream

  • Beautiful, thanks for sharing.

  • VERY nice 111111

  • I've had a thing for the Cub ever since I was a kid, though I've never flown in one. How ever you look at it, the Cub is just classic. Though I have to say I'm kind of partial to the version that has flaps (is that the Super Cub?). Thanks for the great vid.
