  • @gurkfisk89 I was replying to DrKorn5 about armour. People can fight without it, but I dont because i've always used it. Drill by all means, but do it with a partner, and make sure the drills are right. "None would do much good in an armored fight" depends how hard you strike and where, cuts like these when in a suit of armour are intended to smash, bruise and knock your opponent to the floor at which point you get in close and finish them through a hole or gap i.e. eye slit.

  • @tantorecords

I'm curious why you would like him to do this in armor. I mean, someone as skillful and knowledgeable as you would cleraly see that this is just a drill to get some of the common movements so they become second nature. Also these are clearly movements that are made for unarmoured fighting. None of these cuts would do much good in an armored fight. So why would you want to see him doing this in a period suit of armour?

  • @DrKorn5 I've been to battles in russia, poland, italy and france. And nobody in the US comes anywhere close to being as skilful as any of those countries. American "re-enactors" and their phony fantasy interpretations are a running joke in europe. not to mention the fact that it is the birthplace of that historical abomination you call the SCA.

  • @DrKorn5 Come to england with a suit of armor and put your money where your mouth is then. I've been giving public demonstrations in armour since I was 15, leading re-enactment battles of 500 - 1500 people since 19 and won 5 longsword tournaments in the UK last year. I've trained with modern masters of longsword and shortsword at leeds royal armoury and the tower of london. I've done things with a sword you'll never even understand, let alone employ in any useful way.

  • @tantorecords i'm guessing you are completely unfamiliar with medieval combat then. Armor doesn't slow you down that much and if you have trained with it for years...

  • That Audioslave...

  • Now do it in a period suit of armour and see how useful it is.

There are many groups in the UK. I will send you a link to the "HEMA Group Finder" from the HEMA Alliance. it's a map with many of the groups in the UK. I don't think that all of them trains with the longsword but i think most of them do. I hope there are a group near you.
