These are the "clown" acts from Saltimbanco, The number was originally developed by René Bazinet. I performed the role from 2002 until 2005... and again on occasion in 2006. The role is currently being performed by Amo Gulinello. (costume designed by Dominique Lemieux)
The numbers have often been accused of being too long. Yet, when they were well performed, became a 'highlight' of the show. The audience memeber is not a "plant" and much of it is improvised.

  • By choosing the right one! :) It is a mix of finding someone who is humble has a sense of play and is not trying to be a "funny" guy... after that it is a question of communicating clearly and inviting the guest to take part in the game. Usually, then the number will be fun to do and hopefully enjoyable to watch.

  • Which performance is this?

  • Saltimbanco... touring show... 2006

  • @fleurlotus , if this audience member is not a "plant" then why did i see the exact same person in the exact same outfit just this past year when they did shows at Germain Arena in 2009? I went to that show twice the week they were here and they used the same guy both times. I love Cirque de Soleil, though

  • @Schadrak1 I performed the act for a number of years and the act suffers immensely of you take someone who knows it already. If Amo took the same person it would have been very foolish of him. The act survives on the surprise and the unknown of both parties... Your power of observation is perhaps shadowed by healthy scepticism... Read other the comments on the video you'll see that it is in fact a different person and not a plant.

  • @Schadrak1 it is a plant. my dad was invited on stage to do this part randomly and i'm pretty sure he doesn't work for the circus ha

  • wooooohh hah

  • you are a clownerie genius..so much things in so little time and everything is sooo natural! You really see the contrast between the rigidity of our society and the lively freshness of the clown.

I've seen this performance made by others and i like your interpretation the most.

    Thanks
