Too many good men died on that ship and in the attempt to destroy it. The Tirpitz was on of the best ships to ever sail.

I see there 4 Nazis that don't like the outcome. hahaha

My grandmother have told me about the events the night Tripiz died. She and a friend was going home after babysitting at some friends house that night. Some of the bombs also struck the shores around the ship, but fortunatly no civilians were killed. The day after the attack my late grandfather came as a refugeee from to Tromsø. They sailed passed the capsized ship the following morning, and he've told me they could hear people screaming and knocking on the hull, trying to get out...

@fdsdh1 True, U-boats were the greatest threat to any ship in the Royal Navy, but in the case with the Bismarck leading the Brits into a U-boat Trap is unlikely, since the British Ships that were chasing the Bismarck also included a number of Destroyers as well as Light and Heavy Cruisers and all those ships were equipped Depth Charges, also the Norfolk and Suffolk were equipped with Radar...so any U-boat cruising on the surface will be dealt with extreme prejudice.

@EvilFingers the greatest threat to the british warships were the uboats the brtish were very worried that the bismarck would lead them into a uboat wolfpack

I live close to where the ship tirpiz sank. Its strange to watch a documentary that tells a history connected to where i live, around Tromsø. Its strange how a such a huge and dark event happened in a such a sleepy, quiet and peaceful place like this.

@allanguo99 You're a little, fucking, magot pig, you know that? The reason why they're at the bottom is because of your bombs, dumbass. They surely killed plenty of your own.

@allanguo99 both were designed in about 1936 when the average heavy bomb was 500 or 1000 pounds , and delivered by things like Mk1 wellingtons or Dornier17s .
Accordingly the main armoured deck was placed to defend these ships against an enemy ship's shells , a deck lower than in their USN and RN contemporaries .
Not that it made much difference , because Nothing in the Armour deck line would withstand an armour piercing 6ton Tallboy .
My dad was one of the pilots on that fateful day, in fact he scored one of the direct hits. In later years he met on of the gunnery officers from the Tipitz and they became friends - to the extent of exchanging Christmas greetings to the end of my dad's life. Just two young men doing their duty and both being brave. RIP to them all.

I think this is one of the most fascinating war stories to come out of WWII. This video is my first time hearing this and I am amazed.
