Oklahoma Freethought Convention 2011

Once they got their slogan they were on a roll and they then 'freethought' about where to hold the convention. Would you like to guess where the 'freethinking commitee' thought of? Yep, you got it - a CHURCH! Sorry for laughing but that was too funny. No wonder Matt expressed his hope that in years to come the churches would be empty - the freethinkers want somewhere to meet!

What is the significance of them meeting in a Church? Did they pray before the convention? Did they have communion half way through?

I am merely making fun of their lack of creativity. Both in terms of their slogan and their location as well. I think it's extremely funny. Sorry - have the atheists been making fun of religious people so much they have forgotten that there is freedom for religious people to laugh at secularists? Why so precious? Get a sense of humour.

I really did not understand this video. I never agreed with Descartes' statement, but I don't see what's wrong with them using it. I also don't understand why it's significant to use a church. Churches are basically fancy auditoriums. It seems like a perfect place. Was the uploader pointing out an actual failure, or doing a parody of critics of the freethinkers?

I don't have any issue re-purposing a church, although, I do see the humor the in it! There are songs that I like that many would find questionable that I would like, however, the understanding and/or appreciation of a sentiment does not require acceptance of that sentiment. So, whether the target is real or imagined I can still appreciate the emotional tone. I just don't accept claims of truth (non-subjective statements) on the back of feeling.

@FillTheirVoid BTW I agree on that "Freethinking" is a slogan. No human in this world is truely freethinkers. We are all defined by the knowledge we grew up in and our cognitive patterns usually follows the pattern established when we where about 3 years old. However I do believe that this group fancy themselves as more free thinking than theists and I can only agree with them.
