i'm assuming the problem with the television is that there isn't any power so it will not "recognize" the infrared or whatever tech the remote uses to turn it on....so having a desktop plugged as soon as you hit the power button on the lcd monitor or desktop box it will power up like the tv does when doing so manually?

Thanks for the info about using with a TV. Just as I suspected, this thing is of very limited use. I want the digital clocks in my devices to stay on, and want my remote and my HTPC to be able to turn on my TV and receiver.
This video starts at 1:40 and becomes useful at 2:10. Everything before 1:40 and after 2:40 can be safely (and mercifully) deleted.
