Perhaps the drummer may be Ronnie Burrage? - He is really really layin' it down nicely in tandem with the awesome percussion. Burrage played with M. Gibbs in the ass kickin' NY group Defunkt.

how excellent to see a mention of Defunkt, a no-bullshit, no-compromise assault of funk and tasty grooves if their ever was one

I was lucky enuff to see one of their early performances in a tiny club in NYC sometime around 1979 and it was outstanding -- the two-guitar grooves Joseph Bowie's band laid on the small but appreciative audience were unforgettable

Joseph and the bass player (wish I could remember his name) dug the smoke we shared in between sets, too :)
