Toulouse is a 4 month old male ferret. Dwayne is a rather large adult male cat. The two species, aside from being carnivores, couldn't be more distant in the phylogenetic tree. In fact, ferrets are caniforms, or "dog-like." Cats, of course, are feliforms, i.e. cat-like.

But the animals know nothing of all this. In particular, Toulouse seems completely unaware of Dwayne's size, species or age. Dwayne, on the other hand, plays with the ferret like a female cat plays with her kittens. He lets the ferret nibble and pounce, gently blocking his attacks and patiently cradling the excited baby.

It would be nice to claim that animals can get along even when they differ in species, while humans recoil at the slightest difference in color or sexuality. But it isn't so. Dwayne grew up with ferrets. Most people with pets of different species know that animals that grow up together tend to get along. Like us, animals tend to fear what they're not used to. There is a difference, though, an important one. Humans have language, and they have the internet. They can disseminate information around the world in an instant. We have no excuse for our xenophobia. The ignorance that drives intolerance in us and other species is at least understandable in cats and ferrets.

  • Ferrets never quit, they only get distracted or fall asleep.

  • A pleasantly unexpected text accompaniment to what I expected to be just another cute animals-playing video!

  • victory :)

  • Glad your animals play together well. Personally, I was a bit nervous seeing the older cat's tail becoming more and more animated.

  • @parrott15 actually it couldnt the ferret even at a young age has a harder biting ability than a cat by far and this along with there unbelievably thick skin would give any cat a run for its money i would know i have a 8 week old ferret named bandit and my dads girl friend has a male cat named garfield who is about a year old and they play all the time but the ferret still comes out on top they just choose not to use all of there biting ability unless necessary...!!!!

  • You have som great insight, if only people could think the same way before discriminating lgtbq people or people of a different etnicity, culture or belief.

  • @8DX ehh that cat could kill the ferret with one good hard bite

  • This is so unnerving, because these two animals would actually by ripping bits off each other in the wild.

  • I enjoyed this!

  • ADORABATTLE!
