Max Reger's Introduction & Passacaglia in D minor. Passau now calls its instrument (which is actually 5 separate instruments playable from a central console) the "largest organ outside the U.S." That works. Edgar Krapp made this recording in April of 1983.

Martin Doering of Die Orgelseite (which I highly recommend to organ-lovers) provided most of the pictures.

  • The Organ In Passau has much more power than the bigger insruments in the US!

  • This organ is so well suited to Reger's music.

  • @bachprofessore and live you will not belive what you hear ;)

  • Not sure what the issue is. All I said was that there are 2 operating 64' stops; I didn't even say they covered that entire register, since I don't know that for sure. Maybe it's only the lowest 12? Where are the other up-to-64 ft speaking pipes?

  • @granddadwfd This is perhaps a bit misleading, there are more than 2 Organs in the world with pipes of lengths up to and including 64' but there are only 2 Organs which have 64' stops which cover the full range of a manual (61 notes).

  • @Electron1944

    It's a resultant.

There are only two "true" 64 ft stops in the world: Sydney Australia's Town Hall Grand Organ contains one - the Contra-Trombone in the pedal. The other 64' stop is the Diaphone-Dulzian in the Right Stage chamber (Pedal Right division) of the Boardwalk Hall Auditorium Organ at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, United States.

  • the sounds is simply incredible

  • Next weak i will make a trip to Passau, i hope that the concert is as powerfull as that recording ^^

  • 2 people were deafened by the sheer power

  • @resultant64 the notation 8', 16' etc. is how long the pipe that produces the lowest note (a C) on that stop is. There are also stops on some organs that use any one of number of methods to produce a resultant pitch lower than would otherwise be possible with the length of pipe used.

  • Guys... is the 64' stop oth that height or is it what I call a pipe in a pipe eg and 8' pipe sounds 16' because of lack of space or cost. Also there are resultant stops i.e 2 pipes sounding together to sound lower...?
