Part 3 of the Changes from The SNES to GBA
Uncle's Text;
SNES/VC it has the famous "Zelda is your...." Line.
It lead to many conclusions if Zelda was Link's Sister, Wife or just a friend.

Wall Lights don't animate when text appears,

GBA: They removed the famous line and they altered his whole text.
Although the famous line is still on there when you see "Super Blind" in Palace of 4 Swords

Wall Lights still animates when text appears.

Track Change.

SNES/VC: Doing the Death mountain descent trick and exiting southwards changes from Darkworld Mountain theme to Darkworld Main Overworld theme.
This sort of thing happens when you go in whirlpools too it repeat the track back to the start.

GBA: Doing the Death mountain descent trick and exiting southwards doesn't change the track, it doesn't repeat the track when you go inside a whirlpool too.

Bottle positions and Name of the revival fairy + Rare bee.

SNES/VC: You'll only see 1 bottle on there but when you highlight it reveals the other bottles on the right of the screen.
They named the revival fairy "FAERIE" and the rare bee "GOOD BEE".

GBA: You can see all 4 bottles at the same time even when you are not highlighting the bottle item.
They named the revival fairy "FAIRY" and the rare bee "GOLDEN BEE".

Lamp vs. Enemy.

SNES/VC: It has no effect.
GBA; You can damage them with this. They can get hit a lot but it is very weak.
It's around 2 flares to kill a Green Knight. It's not 1 flare with max hits, just 2 flares.

Magic Boomerang vs a sign, a bush and some grass.

SNES/VC. It has no effect on all 3
GBA: It can cut all 3.

Magic Powder overload glitch.

SNES/VC: Follow the methods on this video to do this glitch
You can do this on Parallel Worlds Hack.
Zoomed in Map screen is angled.

GBA: Doesn't work because it's a GBA game and it can handle more stuff/ or they fixed this glitch.
Zoomed in Map screen is not angled

Magic Powder Vs Pots.

SNES/VC: No effect.
GBA: Can destroy them now.

Sword picking up items.

SNES/VC: The sword doesn't pick up the items.
GBA: You can use the sword to pick up the items now.

Reset curse Glitch. Both uses the UP+DOWN button methods.

SNES/VC: Going to this hazard room just freezes the game then it blacks out.
You can do this on the real thing by playing it on an early part of the game, by rescuing Zelda then do the Mid Air save glitch..

GBA: Well this time it doesn't crash the game but it really messes up Link's Condition. You can do this on the real thing by doing a Mirror Glitch.

Rare Bee Shop

SNES/VC: This shop doesn't exists.
GBA: A new added shop. This is the only place where you can buy the rare bees.

Super Bomb.

SNES/VC: This is looks like a normal bomb but pink colour.
GBA: The bomb has new animation. It grows.

Wishing fountain and item that fairy shows you. (Waiting parts of the clips were cut off to save time)

SNES/VC: When you wish the 1st four chords play, get the item then wait inside the place. When you wish again the 1st four chords play again. The item that the fairy shows is stationary in mid air.
GBA: When you wish the 1st four chords play, get the item then wait inside the place. When you wish again the game doesn't play the 1st four chords. It directly continues where it was. The item that the fairy shows is moving up and down in mid-air.

Ether and Ether Glitch:

SNES/VC: The Ether Magic animation flashes white. The tree inside it after casting this is some weird object.
GBA: The Ether magic animation no longer flashes white to prevent seizures. The tree inside can be a Super bomb or Blind's human form head

Proof That Chris Houlihan room is on both SNES/GBA.
By doing the Underground Glitch

SNES/VC: When finding this room by doing the underground glitch you need to find the Sanctuary screen, then go 1 right then 1 up.
You can see the secret room of LTTP unfortunately by doing this method you can't collect the ruppes.

GBA: Same Method by doing either Up+down or the mirror glitch
This time the room is still there even though it's no longer accessible by normal methods (which was to race to the Hyrule castle hole as quick as possible from Sanctuary). Although they remove the telepathic tile plus there is no water some people say that this room is now called "TOP SECRET ROOM". Very strange.

Bombs on Water:

SNES/VC: They have the bomb and the walking on water sprite.
GBA: They removed the water sprite when the bomb is on water.

  • 1:55 Are those statues a hack or something exclusive to GBA?

  • It's an extra that is exclusive to the GBA version :)

  • the room at 4.44-4.45

how do you get in there noramly?

cos im playing it now and i reli dunno how to get in there lol

  • If you are in the room at 4:46. All you need to do is to be below the blocks, then face up to the blocks, hold the dash button and the bump boost should take you to the cracked wall area.

  • can you play multiplayer co-op link to the past on the game boy??

  • Obviously no.

Top Comments

  • I thought it was fairly obvious (not to be confused with faerily obvious) that "Zelda is your..."

    DESTINY.

  • SNES versions of FF6 and Zelda 3 were better than GBA.

Although the GBA translation makes it more obvious that Celes is trying to kill herself, rather than just taking a "leap of faith."

  • Howd the fuck did you get back into the sewers

  • The hazard room scares me.

  • What happened in the hazard room?!

  • How sad! They should have left the pannel with Chris Houlihan's name in it.

I wonder if he is disappointed it was removed lol

  • WTH? 3:29

  • @Greenalink What are they? And how do you get them?

  • What's the item next to the heart piece counter at 0:52?

  • some of text from the SNES and GBA is different.

  • Man, I had only played the SNES version of A Link to the Past once, and it was for like an hour (it wasn't my SNES). No wonder I wasn't able to tell the difference when I played through the GBA version. Though the two differences that I did notice when I started playing the GBA version was that Link had his scream from Ocarina of Time and that the audio wasn't nearly as good (but that one was a given). This vid makes me want to play through the SNES version completely.
