Test flying the Zenair CH701 STOL airplane with the Jabiru 2200 engine

Here's a good video of a nice evening flight in the Zenith STOL CH 701 powered by the 85-hp Jabiru 2200 engine. Notice the visibility in turns (through the top window!).
There are actually two of us on board and we were flying pretty close to gross weight (1100 lbs). Notice the cruise and approach speeds. There is no fuel flow meter installed, but I'm pretty sure we were burning less than 4 gallons per hour!

I"m surprise to see round lift struts on this craft.I thought the kit would have been refined by now to include aerodynamic ones.

The STOL CH 701 design uses simple and low-cost readily-available materials as much as possible. Extruded streamlined fairings are also available...

So how are you liking th Jabiru so far. The one thing I see about a direct drive engine of this size, it has to swing a smaller diameter propeller compared to the geared rotax thus reducing efficiency a little. The Jabiru would be more suited to faster airplanes.

Clearest video I've seen, even without HQ, but took awhile to download. Could you kindly tell me what camera was used for this? Whoever took this video finally let everyone get a good look not just outside, but inside at the instruments, of what it was cruising at, along with vital engine info. Really appreciate all of that. Zenith will be hearing from me soon, just need to save up for the other half. :-)
