my grandfather was a sergeant major in burma during the second world war. he said he had never seen such brilliant warriors as the Gurkhas, because they seemed to have absolutely no fear of battle and had an instinct for killing the enemy, whilst still remaining brilliant friends with my grandfather's squad. one certain trick of the Gurkhas was to crawl through the brush up to a soldier, and look at his shoe laces. If they were tied in a certain way, they could tell is they were japs or allies!!
