Marine Corps Week
Originally Aired - July 2009
The United States Marine Corps came to Chicago for a week-long celebration of Country and Corps during the week of May 11-17, 2009. Chicago was the first stop of what The Marines hope will be a twice-annual occurrence in cities across the nation. Chicagos vibrant atmosphere and rich diversity made it their top choice for launching this new Marine Corps initiative.
Throughout Marine Week Chicago, Marines volunteered at local non profits, spoke at area high-schools, performed concerts and provide physical fitness demonstrations and activities. The Marine Corps wrapped up its celebration with weekend exposition events at Arlington Park and Navy Pier that include band performances, martial arts demonstrations, tours of aircraft and vehicles and several other attractions for the public.
So On Tuesday, May 12, 2009, Oak Park and River Forest High School along with The Forgotten Heroes Foundation which entertains Veterans in VA hospitals and enlisted men and women around the world. Forgotten Heroes even sponsors and promotes entertainment on the frontline of Iraq and Afghanistan.
hosted a performance by the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon and "The Commandant's Own" - The Marine Corps Drum and Bugle Corps. Both gave an awesome perform. Both almost never performs outside of Washington D.C. so it was treat for the audience to see such a sight.
Also before the event was a performance from Joe Cantafio of The 101st Rock Division, Jonathan Brant, formerly of Cheap Trick, and Ricky Baker of Rico.
It's too bad I have to listen to this whiney voice, working WAY too hard on diction!
