Personally, I feel like the series might be better if they just ended the anime when Ichigo lost his shinigami abilities and could not see Rukia anymore.

in the previews for the upcoming manga Ginjo tells Ichigo that Ukitake is pulling the strings in SS by monitoring Ichigos every move through his badge interesting how he made sure Ichigo would have the badge.
