  • Neat hearing a K5LA on an E60. Just my guess, but it was probably cheaper for Amtrak to replace a worn out P01235 horn rather than rebuild it; especially since the K5LA was and still is readily available. Good to know that at least one E60 will be preserved.

  • The only E60 to receive K5LA's on both ends was #610; and, I think she was fitted with them in either late 1998, or early 1999.

  • @bmxboy2468 Because it's the USA regulations...? XD

  • the flux of the airflow from the passing train makes the train shake when a stop train is accelerating. so they go slow to avoid it.. (also to avoid injuries) it only happens when they are leaving a station. and the trains do go more than 20mph. they usually go about 90 actually.

  • hey john i never understood why amtrak has to blow their horn when passing a stopped train?

  • I think 2003

  • I never hav seen one of those SEPTA units moving over 20 mph

  • Excellent info, thanks for posting. Do you know what year the last E60 retired.

  • Great Video!

  • E60MA #'s 600 610 620and 621 had k5la's on at least one side of the locomotives towards the end of their career
