I should be thankful to my parents (another reflexion on the Day of Souls, November the 2nd ) that they taught me not to be prejudiced. They lost nearly everything during the war and decided, still being very young, to start 'a new life' in Upper Silesia -- very close to the regional influence of Germany. Arrived there in Spring '45 and were witnessing the fact of the German minority (before the war, their population in Katowice was 8% /Jewish 6.5%/) who was leaving then the town. Later I was born and I think that the first voice that I heard from the old "brown" Odeon records left by those people, was that of Richard Tauber. I was six, seven and felt how beautiful sound it was -- Tauber singing in unknown to me language...- nobody interfered.

The present record is taken, however, from my collection that developed much later -- it is:

Polish Odeon O. 236800 a.
Matr. Be 8380
1929

  • sebreatnach. Unfortunately 1929 was also the start of a disasterous depression. It was all downhill after then. The same sort of thing happened in 2001 with 9/11. Why do these horrible sorts of things have to destroy the good times? :(

  • I didn't know this. Great tune, great classy interpretation by Tauber. The man was a magician. Djenkuje!

  • Here - on YT only one which you know.

  • Carlitos?? An other suprise !! You never told me! Are there coming more ?

  • Imagine! Berlin 1929. Oh, Berlin! You have had such a tremorous : and now they have lobotomised you! Berlin, you are a Museum and I cannot accept it... I know young buds will flower again in Berlin... unter den Linden... I hope I get an opportunity to drink beer there...
