David Cameron intends to effectively make shadow foreign secretary William Hague his deputy by giving him a national role as well as international affairs.

Mr Cameron said he plans to use Mr Hague's experience as a former Conservative Party leader on the front line in the upcoming election battle with Labour.

Speaking to The Sun in a joint interview with Mr Hague, the Tory leader said: "William is effectively my deputy in all but name and people need to know that. I have been in this job for three years. William did it for four."

This comes just weeks after Hague and his fellow Shadow Cabinet members refused Cameron's appeal to give up their outside interests.

  • Hague earns that sort of money because he has talent. Simple as that!!

Hague or Harman, who would you rather hear at an after dinner speech?

  • Is this meant to be an attack on Hague?

  • Hague is entertaining. Blair is paid for being George B's lap dog - dag that's lucrative.

  • what an awful video..fancy showing a clip of Hague at his best whilst 'attempting' to smear him..that is a big mistake..you've got a clip of him mocking the labour party for being around 30 years late with equality for women whilst at the same time taking the mick out of Gordon Brown's apparent love for Margaret Thatcher

  • She could probably be a better PM too!

  • Hague is rich, I'm surprised that Government hasn't confiscated all his money by now.

  • you are sooooo irritating

  • What a pathetic video; typical cheap NuLab smear tactics. You know something? Labour were elected on the back of Tory sleaze, promising to be whiter than white - NuLab have been far sleazier than the Tories ever were.

  • Soon nulabour will be in opposition; noone will give them 50p for their thoughts - MOOWAHAHAHA!!!
