You can buy fancy vacuum clamps these days to hold the guitar body whilst you scraoe the binding flush, but if you are flexible you can do it sitting on the floor - cheap and quiet. However you hold the body this is a fiddly and unfortable job, you just have to get on with it. This is also the time to correct any minor bumps or hollows in the sides.

  • Becoming a luthier is my ultimate dream. can you tell me how i can get a start at making guitars. how u get ur start?

  • I was an apprentice to Stefan Sobell and worked for him from 1988 to 2003.

If you really want to learn, teach yourself, there is plenty of info out there.

  • I didnt quite get the point of the superglue is it to fill gaps?

    cheers

  • The glue helps seal the purfling which is of a different texture to the Rosewood. This helps prevent the finish sinking in . It may also fill minor gaps

  • Just remembered - also if you scrape and then seal with glue before sanding you prevent sanding dust entering the white purfling lines and discolouring them.

  • Quite instructional. Ever thought of opening a school? Tks for all your posts.

  • Shan't be doing that, but I do quite enjoy making these clips and it helps spread the word about me work. Am available to give the odd lecture though!

  • Great video! thanks.

  • NKForester,

Can you please show a clip of how you cut the channels around the body for the bindings? I'm at that stage in building my first guitar, and would like to see the method you use. Thanks!

  • I 've watched all your luthier video and these have been very informative. Better than any others on Youtube IMHO. Nice guitars. Thanks and please keep posting videos.
