The final episode of "When We Left Earth" prompted me to post this film.

Thanks to an uncle on Merritt Island with a neighbor who worked for NASA, I was given a pass to attend the first rollout of the Shuttle Columbia at the VAB.

This was shot on Super 8 and I made this transfer years ago. I hope to do a digital re-transfer in the near future as the original film looks much better than this.

I also have audio tape of the event which has yet to be synchronized with the film. You will notice the astronauts John Young and Robert Crippen giving a talk at the event.

The video ends with two still shots, including one of myself standing in front of the shuttle.

Weather-wise on that day, we actually had snow flurries!
