what a different man he was then...no fashion sense, no celebrity girlfriends, no inflated ego...this is the person i idolized in high school and is part of the reason i'm a musician today...instead of "assassin" it was "my stupid mouth". he wasn't a lady killer, he was just another confused guy trying to make sense of his life and relationships

This would me so much cooler if the girls would shut the fuck up!

A lot of people complain about mayers voice, but it doesnt bother me that much, its actually quite the breath of fresh air compared to the grunts and raspy, forced voices most blues guitarists or singers have nowadays. IMO
-
@bigdjindustriez He admitted in an interview that during the making of room for squares, his voice hadn't really developed its own sound yet. He was trying to produce a sound, not just let a sound come out. That's why Continuum and Battle Studies sound much better vocally.
-
@bigdjindustriez ok i understand what you mean. and i agree with you, he sometimes does it a little too much...
-
@mattrca Occasionally it just sounds like he's "putting on" that vocal sound instead of singing naturally
-
@bigdjindustriez what do you mean by fake sounding?
-
how much do you want to bet that over half of the people didnt know what he was playing....lol
-
He's become a much better singer and musician in general since this concert. His vocals are nowhere near as breathy and fake sounding anymore. The man is an excellent guitar player and lyricist, no matter what any jealous idiot thinks of him.

@bahaanaldo yo I'm definitely with you on this and you are 100% correct-- John is channeling SRV in certain moments. His hendrix cover of 'bold as love' and all the John Mayer trio stuff has a serious SRV tone to it.
PS that's ridiculously hard, SRV was an anomaly in the blues world.

im not a musician by any means but this man named John Mayer WILL be one of the greats, mark my text

Theres going to be a hardcore SRV fan that gets mad at me for this, but I listened to the original Lenny and John Mayer's Lenny and I have to say...they sound almost exactly the same.
John Mayer was amazing in 2004 during this concert.
And he's 10 times better today.
Favorite artist ever.
