Some creepy slowed down music and a minute of a twitching eye. This is the highest hacked bitrate I've recorded with the GH2. Recorded in EX mode with the 20mm pancake with 115mb settings. Average bitrate on this clip is 107mb! Crazy. Almost 4.5x the original camera bitrate!

  • at this data rate, how long can you shoot without stopping?

Is there a 10 minute limit to the GH2 like the Canon EOS series cameras?

Lastly, what is the best data rate for shooting something fast without giving the GH2 a heart attack, like lets say a car chase or an action sequence?

  • @CelestialHarvester You can shoot at 165mb for as long as a card lasts. You'll need a 64GB Sandisk Extreme Pro 95mb card to do it, and it will last you probably close to 60 minutes depending on how much information is in the scene.

  • I don't know why Panasonic just dosen't sell these cameras with the recording settings you shot on.I mean if the cameras are capable of this quality why send them out with a 1/3 of what it can do.Thats like making a V8 car with 400 horsepower and 11 second 1/4 mile. Then disabling 4 cylinders and restricting fuel to the last 4 cylinders so you 20 second 1/4 mile.No one does that.

  • @reticulan5 I know, its crazy. I was complaining about the 24mb gh2 bitrate before it was even released, while andrew reid was defending it. anything less than 60mb with 1080p 24 is just too low. 100mb+ is where it starts getting excelllent.

  • I shared this with 43rumors when you uploaded it yesterday and what do you know, he actually embeded it on his site. Nice!

  • @jshaw6600 Thanks! Love 4/3 rumors, check it everyday. Thanks for sending it

  • I'm still amazed at how sharp the 360p encodes come out.

  • I don't know for what purpose you made this video, but i found it very usefull in observing human eye for my 3d human modeling and animation.

I think the reason for why Panasonic doesn't have it available on this camera is due to how few SDHC cards can work reliably with that high of a bitrate.

In order to get a videorecording to "span" using some of the highest quality hacks you need to use a 64 GB 95mb/s Sandisk Extreme Pro SDHC card. Nope, not a 32 MB 95mB/s card... only the 64 apparently works reliably...

This information is valid as of 1/7/2012, please don't get on my case when you read my comment in 2014 :(

  • For anyone who is curious..

I'm using sandisk HD video extreme pro 32 GB SDHC card at 30mbs and it gets me:

With driftwood seaquake patch I can get...

8:20 minutes on HD (30 fps drop) motion jpeg

total of 25:13 on 24H (24fps) in 4 minute takes.

    27 minutes on FH 1080i 60fps

  • I just got my GH2 a week ago and am using driftwoods seaquake 176mbps patch. Were you using 24h?

I have to tell you that after doing a comparison that none of the footage looks anymore detailed than the stuff on my canon 7D. Also, using the same lenses at the same distance,

I was able to get 10" in width on the 7D and 7.5" in width on the GH2. I think the crop factor isn't 2X but 1.85 i.e. as long as the Canon 7D is exactly 1.6. I don't know what you call this terminology - i needed to say it

  • I agree with you on the 100 mb/sec bit rate.I have several Panasonic P2 cameras and they have such a beautiful codec and picture. The Sony HDV and S x S never did.
