This was mind blowing back in 1989. It was the first time that someone had taken a house record and made it a non-house track . The 4/4 kick was gone, now replaced by a huge breakbeat ( origin sample ID please!). At the time this was extraordinary, as most non-house records were getting a
"house remix", not vice versa.
I don't know if you can really appreciate this from a YT video , but in a club , the sound was HUGE, eclipsing everything else that went before it.

The boys behind this were Robert Gordon ( of the Forgemasters ) and Parrot ( Funky Worm,Krush, All seeing I) at the legendary FON studios in Sheffield.

BTW the break was also later sampled on "Firestarter" by the Prodigy.

I'm just discovering this mix.

I grew up with the original being played @ Sound Factory in NYC but I love this mix!

*That's what a good remix is supposed to do is reinterpret & bring something new to the song.

And the fact that it's from 1989! makes it GROUNDBREAKING!

David Mancuso, Larry Levan, Nicky Siano to name a few were dominating the club scene as early as 1975...........But, like you said, those who don't know just don't know andwill unfortunately will probably never understand.

Right, I managed to blow the dust off an old CD that was sat in my cupboard for a lengthy period of time, so I put it to good use and uploaded the original version of Devotion, but unfortunately, it's blocked in many countries due to copyright restrictions. Hopefully, it's able to play where you are.
