Playing piano part with the new Roland RD-700NX - The bass and drums were arranged before hand, very nice jazz piece, got some great (but not friendly) chords. First time playing the song all the way through, using the app 'iReal b' on my phone to reference the chords incase I got lost... brilliant app! Only £5, thousands of jazz pieces available in every key and more.

Enjoy :-)

PS : I plan to make a follow up video to the RD700-NX showing the pros and cons for potential buyers etc...

  • Classically trained.

  • @fences22 If you mean me... wrong! Can't read dots to save my life. I just play by ear and enjoy myself ;)

  • hi there,1 question...

samba is sort of bossa nova?

    they seems quite similar :)

sorry for my bad english...i'm from malaysia :)

  • @94brian Yes they are quite similar, I'd say a bossa nova has more of a 'straight' beat (quite like the drums in this) Ideally the drums would be more samba-ish but the track I sequenced to had drums like this, so it has more of a bossa feel. I'd say samba is more brushes on tom toms with a loose feel, rather than the 'straight' ride and rim shot sound.

  • Great men!Tell me is that bossa nova rythm build in Roland or how did you make it? Did you use some external devices? What speakers do you use and did you recorded that internaly via usb and then add sound to video clip? Im asking so much because i want to buy it. I think that this roland and v piano which is so explensive is best digital pianost on market.. Im classical pianist and try both and the touch is great, it can not be compared to any other models! All best!

  • @predoje Thanks for the comment! I used lots of external devices to make the bossa nova rhythm, firstly, the built in 'beats' on the Roland are awful, I'd recommend anyone to keep away! (although 'swing 1' works for playing about) The backing was sequenced in logic on a mac. I was using my KC stereo amp to listen back, and the piano was recorded via the jack outputs (i'd keep away from that too, as it bogs down the processor, causing notes to cut out) I agree the piano sound is 1 of the best!

  • nice playing man did you use lead sheets to learn this.fantastic stuff.

  • @fences22 Believe me, he's probably telling the truth. I had a piano teacher who didn't want me to study ANYTHING but classical, and I wanted to play jazz and brazilian music. Most of them used to be that way, and probably still are!

  • Hey, you're good! I took 5 years of lessons and sound these days like I took 5 minutes!

  • sick

  • @94brian i know this is 5 months old, but just to answer your question the bossa is lighter in texture than a samba. often, a samba is a quicker tempo as well. the bossa is actually played in double time, usually its around 60bpm, though most backing tracks would incorrect state the tempo as 120

  • very very nice. This is inspirational. I am learning very late in life and this makes me sit at the box for hours and just play anything. Pure joy! Thank you

  • Sounds good bro! ...but I can see that you transposed lol...sounds good though!
