It's interesting stuff...it doesn't directly apply to what I am doing. I am trying to do a Rhythm style but right now I am experimenting with DADFCD tuning, which seems to be particularly effective for Rhythm guitar. Much less so for solo work....

The style I do is for big band or swing style. Almost no one knows how to do it anymore because they come from a rock/folk background and the shell chord system is so completely different. Even when I see a bunch of old-timers play big band music, the rhythm guitarist (usually a very good jazz player) gets it all wrong and actually hurts the sound of the band. BTW, this style leads directly to the very hip Bebop moving bass style.

Re: The method of focusing on the pattern DEF-BC -G wouldn't it also be advantageous for someone just learning to also play D- EFB - CG or maybe B-E-F-D-G-C etc? Mix them up so no particular patterns form, ie (134=DEF when in fact they are D#FF#)...?

This is only the first step. When you play the random chord progressions you will really get a mixed lot.
