POWERS: Superhuman strength, endurance, and durability. He can lift 85 tons, absorb the blast of an armor-piercing bazooka shell, withstand temperature extremes, and needs to suit to survive in space or in the ocean depth.

ESSENTIAL STORY LINES
FANTASTIC FOUR #1: An accident is space changes pilot Ben Grimm into the orange-colored-rock-encrusted Thing.

FANTASTIC FOUR #8: The Thing meets Alicia Masters and a long love affair begins.

FANTASTIC FOUR #310: Having quit the Fantastic Four, the Thing decides to join the West Coast Avengers, when he mutates into an even more grotesque creature, and sets off for Monster Island to find Mole Man.
