To add a bit to what I was saying: Everything in Kubrick movies seem to go nowhere, so it's no coincidence that a subplot disappears. It's not that Kubrick sucks, it's part of his deeper meanings. The Bear suit man, for instance, relates to many other scenes in the film involving bears. There are bears seen during scenes with Danny and Jack, and so it could be implying that the bear suit man is Danny and/or Jack, and the man being sucked on could be related other themes in the movie.

The ambiguity of the film is again I think the easiest way to understand it:
Almost every ghost that he interacts with is in front of a mirror. Most of the sets with red walls foreshadow a soon-to-come danger.
Did Jack really get out of the freezer? Could it have been Danny who let him out? Or is the hotel really haunted? Maybe Jack hallucinated, maybe Danny wanted him to get out (there's evidence, during the many late chase scenes, that suggest that Danny WANTED to be chased, to rid of Jack.)

I was talking about King describing what's going on in character's heads, but which can't be shown on screen, so I settled on a brain.
I should have just used my photo, in retrospect.
