Tchaikovsky Concerto 2 Complete 2nd Mov Pt.1. Nikolayeva

Here is the complete second movement of the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Major Op.44 sans the Siloti cuts. It is performed by the great Russian pianist Tatiana Nikolayeva to whom Shostakovich dedicated his cycle of 24 preludes and fugues. This came about after the composer heard the then 26 year old Nikolayeva perform preludes and fugues from Bach's WTC.

The Tchaikovsky 2nd Piano Concerto should *only and always* be performed exactly as Tchaikovsky wrote it. The second movement is one of his most beautiful creations and deserves to be heard in its original form. The Igor Zhukov/Rozhdestvensky USSR RTV Large Symphony Orchestra recording is the best modern recording of this there is. It shows that the 2nd Piano Concerto far outshines his ever-popular first.

Yes, this is the version as Tchaikovsky originally wrote it--almost, in the beginning of the 2nd movement, a triple concerto. One of his most inspired pieces. Do not ever get the version with the Siloti cuts--it's a travesty and ruins Tchaikovsky's brilliant and moving vision.

I listened to the first 3 minutes and forgot it was a piano concerto, I checked back the video to make sure it was not a viola/violin concerto X D. The piano part was wonderful though, when it came in.
