gotta hand it to her, I don't think she's got a mic

just.... brilliant. you know she is a broadway star, she can keep in perfect character (including improv) and sing like it's nothing. i love the movie, but i felt Mrs. Lovett was kind of... too passive in that. like, she was just extremely depressed. where as in the musical she is downright batty.

don t like it :(( disaster!!

Case in point: this. Before you say "she is just yelling", THATS THE POINT. That is exactly how the show is supposed to be performed!!!!! She's excited because her place is practically deserted, she can't care less that people hate her place, she's happy someone's enough to taste her shitty pies. In addition, everyone in the film basically sleepwalked their roles, which is why I kinda don't like the movie.

HELENA

I love how while Patti's (or Mrs. Lovett's) having her little breakdown, George (sweeney) is just sitting there with his eyebrows raised going 'Are you done now?' xD

I love HBC so much, but I prefer Lupone's singing to Helena's. But Helena's acting > everything.

@playgirlc that amazing moment when mt people know who callas is :D
and i totally agree with you. PEOPLE: LOVETT IS A CHARACTER ROLE. If she sang this like a beautiful aria, she would ruin the character!
-
i can't see (or hear!) anything wrong with her rendition. it's not supposed to be sung like callas.

Patti's so much fun to watch.
Well I prefer helena's singing but patti captures mrs.lovetts character better. She's supposed to be a bit off her rocker and bold to begin with but the movie made it look like sweeney made her crazy

You can hear...Patti makes a specific choice for each line she sings. Nothing is taken for granted. This lady knows the text and has a gigantic voice to boot! Completely different from Angela's but I LOVE both of them. Patti is my patron saint of theatre!
