This Friday 2nd September, public voting opens for the final 22 projects that have made it through to the finals of the 2011 National Lottery Awards. They include Wentworth Castle Trust, a project set about rescuing the historic Wentworth Caste from dereliction, which is competing in the Best Heritage Project category.

Wentworth Castle Trust was created in 2002 to rescue the historic Wentworth Castle Estate from dereliction through a phased programme of restoration, and to provide extensive public access to this 18th century estate for the first time. More than 200 volunteers regularly give up their time to maintain the estate and the 26 listed buildings within it.

This ambitious National Lottery-funded project has been working to restore the castle and estate since 2002, and key works have included essential repairs to the castle's roof, restoration of key monuments and gardens, the creation of visitor facilities, access works and the planting of 18 hectares of new broadleaf woodland.

To vote for Wentworth Castle Trust call: 0844 836 9718 or log on to www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards
