thats the first time I see tow people have a reasonable discussion on youtube comments. congratulations to @waldomarek and @theljames, I wish there were more people like you around here
@TheIjames actually, your first reply made you sound like one haha, but from your other replies i can see you're a reasonable person :P on the question whether bjj throws are judo throws (and whether judo throws are jj throws): i dunno, they have the same roots (jj) but i don't have enough knowledge about the throws to give a correct answer on this. i've seen some bjj/gjj moves and it really reminded me of the jj i do, but i'm not exactly sure about this one.
@waldomarek Who would have thought you could compare the evolution of man to Jiu Jitsu? haha Thanx for the open discussion. I appreciate it. So many people just argue for the sake of it without much knowledge about the topic in the first place. My original point about them being the same was aimed at somebody that said the BJJ throws were Judo throws. And it has all just gotten out of hand from there. I lost track of who I was replying to. LOL Hope I havent come across as a know it all ass. LOL
@TheIjames like i said, you do have a point there :) i think it would be right to say that jj/judo/bjj are all very related to each other as a martial art. just like africans, asians, caucasians, etc. are all genetically related (going a bit very far now in this discussion haha). anyway was fun to discuss with ya :P
@waldomarek hahaha I like that analogy. All Africans :-) That is a fairly good way to sum it up i think. Just like the way the gentle art that the samurai created, has evolved into both Judo and BJJ. Humans have evolved to suite our environments. So, no. You are correct. I wouldn't say we are all African. But beneath everything, we are still the same. But at the same time, just a little different. Some big, some small, some dark and some light. What do you think?
@TheIjames exactly, since they (jj/judo/bjj) vary in styles, they have gotten a different name. i can see your point but imo it's not a valid one. you can't say bjj is basically the same as jj or judo, all of them have a lot of differences. especially speaking of jj, the original one, where there are many forbidden, dirty tricks which judo and bjj never use. also, going on in your logic, we can call every human on the planet african because everyone used to be one, many many years ago?
@waldomarek I don't think they are exactly the same,. Helio took the Judo he had learned and turned it into what we now know as GJJ or BJJ if you prefer. Now we have probably somewhere around 1000 moves in BJJ that all started from Judo. Judo started in a similar way as it took JJ techniques and adapted them for a purpose that fit the times more than the traditional JJ techniques. They have different ways of applying the same techniques, but are in a sense, the same.
@TheIjames so if someone teaches you something, you adapt it and change it to your own thing and it's still called the same as the original? that's exactly what happened from judo -> bjj. of course, bjj has lots of moves from judo, but it also has a huge emphasis on ground game (and perhaps even more moves?). therefore, can you still say judo is the same as bjj?
Awesome music to play for the inrto/outro.
