This episode of Medic is titled, "Boy in the Storm." Originally aired on January 3rd, 1955, this was nineteen year old Dennis Hopper's acting debut. Hopper plays the role of seventeen year old Robert Allan Maxwell, an epileptic whose parents were killed in a plane crash when Robert was two years old.

Left under the guardianship of his Aunt Flora and sole heir to a sizeable estate, problems arise Robert's Aunt Flora dies. Kept at home and tutored (to protect the family reputation), Robert does not have the emotional maturity or educational level of a typical seventeen year old.

Flora Maxwell's attorney, himself seemingly insensitive to Robert's condition, consults with Dr. Moore seeking help for Robert. There are no relatives left at the Maxwell estate to care for Robert and Dr. Moore not only treats Robert's epilepsy but helps with the problem of where Robert will live.

Richard Boone introduces the program as Dr. Konrad Styner.

  • LA authorities must have been busy, what with technical advice for DRAGNET and MEDIC! The adoptive mom is a spitting double for JESSE ROYCE LANDIS, Cary Grant's mom in NORTH BY NORTHWEST: "Roger, pay the two dollars!" "You men aren't really trying to kill my husband?"

  • @jimaroo100 In my most humble opinion, Medic set the standard that future medical dramas would be measured against. Without Medic, no Ben Casey, Dr. Kildare, Marcus Welby, M.D., Medical Center, St. Elsewhere, and of course, ER.

  • Thanks for posting - I loved watching Medic as a little kid... it was very honest and often featured film from real surgeries... I was 8 or 9 and loved it... my Mom wouldn't watch... too gruesome she said. . It is fun to see it again.

  • R.I.P. Dennis Hopper. Sorely missed by all.
