An IRL Helmet signed by Paul Newman and Graham Rahal, who wore it while he drove the Hole in the Wall Camps car at Mid-Ohio on July 20, 2008 was auctioned off in the fall of 2008. The helmet raised $40,900 for the camp!
The helmet is a tribute to Paul Newmans life, with images of his movie posters. Paul founded the Hole in the Wall Camp, now known as the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps, the worlds largest family of camps for children with serious illnesses. The proceeds from the auction of the helmet specifcally benefited Flying Horse Farms (www.flyinghorsefarms.org), a provisional member of the Hole in the Wall camps, being built in Mt. Gilead, Ohio, just 15 miles from Mid-Ohio and 45 minutes from Rahals hometown of New Albany. It is scheduled to open in 2010.
