  • Blimey thats amazing.....well it gets better because the E reg example in the video is in fact pictures from A press release. The story was a 5 page review from Performance Car in 1988 where they gave the AX GT a good rating. It was the phase 1 of the MK1's with the grey bumpers 13" alloys and no spoiler. So how long ago was it that you owned it and when did you sell? Have you been on the "how many left" website its shocking to see the figures only around a 110 taxed on the road! Regards Joe.

  • where'd you find them, I've looked for ages

  • Hello, well its really hard you have to bear in mind the following hard fact, which is according to 'How many left' there is only 111 in the u.k of which just 3 are GT500's. Amazingly in 2005 there was still 1398 left. These are shocking numbers and makes you realise that an original is one of just a handful left and well worth hanging on to. Usual places for sourcing are ebay, piston heads ax owners club and local paper etc. On ebay now is a black one which use to be mine, but not original now.

  • Thanks for the comments, its funny how cars inspire so many great memories particulary cars we have grown up with which are now rare and even iconic. I am in the process of sourcing another Ax Gt for myself and hope to find the right car soon. It has been 5 years since i last owned a fun hatch and have had many nice cars since but they all lack the magic of an older hatch like the ones i mention in the video! Good luck to you and your car future, Cheers Joe.

  • Thanks for the comments, well wheel wise there is 2 main optons. You can either have the wheels refurbished and polished by a local firm, although many now are reluctant to finish with a laquer coating because it will often perish. So i opted to stick my spare on and do them one by one with a fluffy head from B&Q paint strippers if required as some are painted and wire wool. Gradually once they are stripped you just keep rubbing and polishing with wire wool and metal finishers like Autosol!!

  • Thanks David, yep your right they are bloody rare now. If you are a regular ebay user you will notice between 2/4 a month are normally offered for sale. Where as 8/10 years ago you would get many more matches, but still a lot fewer than say the 205gti. I guess thats because the Pugs sold in far higher volumes and were made for 3 years longer so hence the current situation. I still crave one more AX GT and once my kids are older and we have some spare cash i hope to live the dream again! Joe.

  • I like the drink driving bits!

  • Ax is a very good car, perfect in every particular

  • best first car ever!, and the second stage on the carb at 3/4 throttle is every young new drivers dream come true!

  • dint realise how little there was thts shocking, i have two at the minute a gt5 h reg and a gt 3 door on a h aswell one alot better than the other, i have modded mine a bit tho with morrette headlights compomotive alloys and the biggest mod being the 16v vts engine which makes it ten times the fun running 15 second down santa pod and 0-60 in 6.5 seconds. im building one good one using my old gt5 as spares but i feel a bit guilty now.

  • wow! great video man, herein spain we´ve got an AX and an e36 club, we love to race and hill-climb rally, the AX, even the 1.4 piece of junk (Non GT version) is great, you are a car lover, thats great

  • Your video has made me want another AX GT! I've had 4 GTs and one GTi. Loved the GTs so much. All G reg and I think all are now dead. Black G148 TKL, Grey G140 TKL (yeah, really!) Silver G706 DAB and another Grey G reg. All 3doors too. If I didn't have it's big brother (BX 16v - it feels like a big AX GT) I'd have a mint one sat in the garage.

  • the 1986-1998 Citroen AX was assembled in

    Rennes, France

  • Hey Joe, this is so weird, one of the first AX GT's on this video (the red one with grey bumpers - E327 DRD) was my first car! I bought it from a guy who drove to meet me at the Humber Bridge. How strange! Brings back good memories! What a great car, never let me down, which is unusual for French cars! Was it your dad who sold it to me?
