Eric Sheffer Stevens will be playing Dr. Oliver Reid beginning on January 19. He will be trying to help Noah regain his vision. We Love Soaps has a little info on him here

Daniel Cosgrove , better known as Bill Lewis on the now defunct Procter and Gamble soap Guiding Light , is set to join the expanding cast of As The World Turns. On Tuesday, January 5, Noah's reluctant to reciprocate Luke's romantic feelings. (SOD) Noah pulls away when Luke attempts to become affectionate. (soapcentral.com) Noah isn't as happy as Luke expected him to be with the news he finished his film.
Noah tells Luke and Lily his stay with them will be short, as he's found a doctor in California who has had remarkable results with a numerous patients. Noah's behavior towards Luke is less than desirable.

Noah comes back from rehab and tries to restore his eyesight. Luke will do anything in the world to help him. That's what leads to the introduction of Reid. Noah has not forgiven Luke for everything that happened and Luke is not his father's son for nothing! He takes things too far and for all the right reasons. They will have a conflict between them, even though their feeling aren't different. (ATWT 2010 preview - SOD)

Noah has gone away to try to get some treatment, and he comes back absolutely determined to be cured, to have his blindness reversed. He and Luke still have some real problems with their relationship because of Noah's sense that Luke is responsible for what happened to him. And also because Luke tends to make the mistake of being too controlling. They still obviously love each other but things are very difficult. Noah, at the same time is trying to become more independent, because he hates being the dependent blind guy. Sorry but no. The one who cause Noah's blindness was Noah for working with fireworks without knowing what he was doing.

That said, why are the writers making him such a jerk to Luke?

As I've said before, I feel bad for Noah. I don't know how I'd live without my eyes.

Still, I hate the school argument. I DETEST it. Fair or unfair, Noah got Luke kicked out of school. What Luke did recently (and he didn't do it, once again Damian took care of Luke's problems without being asked to) wasn't that much different than what Noah did and wouldn't get Noah kicked out of school.

Also, Noah realized the fireworks were faulty, but his poor judgement led to his loss of sight.

I kind of agree. And I do feel bad for Noah in that regard.

What I meant was: give Luke an explination! The fact that Noah can't clearly explain himself and his choices to Luke irritates me.

I'm not saying Luke isn't pressuring him, but Noah was blaming him for a while, and almost always insecure Luke is EXTREMELY insecure because Noah needs space after he blamed Luke for his accident. They still haven't made up and put that past them (they can't, because Noah still kind of blames him).

This is why Noah needs his OWN family/friends. He needs a support network that is independent of Luke and his family.

As much as they've done to help him, it's also like being in a fishbowl. It can be suffocating. Noah appreciates Luke and his family's support. But part of loving someone long-term is knowing when to take a step back and give them some room to breathe.

Ironically, Holden and Dusty are the only 2 people who've ever really understood Noah.

This can't be about Luke right now.

When Luke was in a wheelchair he was hellified. He was mean and surly and bitter to anyone who came near him for a while. Noah put up with it and gave Luke space when he asked for it.

Some people need TIME and SPACE to process their feelings. Noah especially.

After being together so long, you'd think Luke would know by now how Noah is. He needs to feel in control of his life. He needs to work out his anger on his own.

Once AGAIN, Noah's entire life has changed. Luke needs to back down.

He's not giving up on Luke and their relationship, right? I love Nuke and I'm not giving up on them until they really does break up for real and Noah disappears for ever. You got what I mean? I think Luke should back up a bit as well. Luke and his dad is causing Noah not to graduate because of getting his prof. fired, Luke kept distracting Noah when he clearly told Luke to wait until he was finished setting up the fireworks and stuff and now Luke isn't giving him the space he needs to cope with his blindness. I mean he lost one of the key things he needed in order to become a good director. His dreams are dashed for now.

I think once Noah recovers his sight, Luke has to give up on him for good. For a while at least. Noah treats Luke like shit. Noah should learn to love Luke again. Or make his life apart.
