The Spikes were an indie Adelaide punk band, which included Doug Thomas on guitar, (ex "Dagoes", and founder of "Greasy Pop" records).
The band were together until 1986, before calling it quits.
Doug (A true South Australian music icon) ran the infamous second-hand record shop called "Umbrella Records".

  • Hey, it must have been Ian that posted this??? How are you mate? It's great to see this after all this time... as lame as it now looks, the music still holds up. Lots of fun memories that day on the beach and in Doug's basement. The Marg lady just wouldn't burn and it was 45 degrees in the shade that day!

  • Hi Swannie 321,

No, I am not Ian. My name is Kim, and I was in a band called Del Webb Explosion

(second incarnation), at around the time. I played keys.

Nice to see Doug (GreasyPop) lurking around.

    Cheers.

  • Was NOT recorded at Lark and Tina's. It was the basement under Umbrella Records on the corner of Frome Road and Rundle Street. The beach scenes were done at West Lakes beach. The yellow Fiat car was greg's. The female manequin was made out of margarine. It wouldn't melt in the sun so we used a blow torch. Two girlfriends in the video..Angela and Louise. Video made by greg (drummer) and his mates from Channel 7. Cost - $zero. Cheers, ian List

  • OK! Thanks for the info. I stand corrected!

    I have updated the description.

Funny, Having been to (and played at) L&T's a number of times, I could have sworn the vid was shot there!

  • Great band. Did two albums, a few singles, soundtrack to B movie. Went to Uk and broke up. Ian List to UV's. greg Swanborough (drummer) now produces Catalyst for ABC tv, james (bass) professor at Uni..Doug Thomas lives in perth in golfing retirement.

  • Golfing Retirement??

  • Unfortunately Ian List has recently passed away. He will be missed but the good music he made will be his gift to us all. R.I.P. Ian.

  • @royism Hey Roy, long time no see. Actually, I reckon the Sydney tour was fun. Hope you're well dude. Remember the gig at Strawberry Hills Hotel and the Maroubra Seals with the Gurus? Regards, Greg S.

  • Happy days... I had a great time mixing these guys, except the abortive Sydney tour. I still have '6 sharp Cuts' album

  • The song was "River Of Love". it was on the second album "Colour In A Black Forest" (also was released as 7" single.) "She's Melting" was the first 7" release by the band. Was on "6 Sharp Cuts"...the band's first album.

  • What was the faux disco song from this album?. It had something to do with water or a river

This also had a video clip

  • hi Rettro, who are you and what band were you in? Do I know you at all? cheers, ian

  • he retired from the music biz. Worked at Da Da Records in Perth for a few years. Now a man of leisure and plays golf daily.
