Try fingerpicking it if you can. The thing is that the chord progression is very cool, but the picking attack doesn't sound right for it. It's often too hard and there is something about it I find annoying. If you fingerpick it, I think you can get a little more drive out of it while also getting better note definition on the top end. Give it a shot and see if you agree with me.
