So this is more of an announcement than a match video - I found a link on the Official Sumo Page that is offering live streaming video (via Windows Media Player) of each day's sumo action.

Here is the main page:
http://www.sumo.or.jp/eng/index.html

Here is the specific page where you will find the streaming video:
http://sumo.goo.ne.jp/eng/hon_basho/torikumi/eizo_haishin/eizo1.html

It might be hard to see on this video, but the streaming video was very fuzzy on my computer, and the audio was not the English play by play, but just ambient noise from the arena.
But it might be a way for me to follow sumo once I return to the States.

Check it out, and come back for more action here each day this week.

  • Hi jason & everyone, I found this guy called "nullf" he is posting the videos with the english comentator and good quality... too bad he doesnt have your input and helpfull explanations

  • Yeah - I sub to him as well.

  • u can get windows media player on mac?

  • yeah - my parents have a newer MAC with all the Windows programs

  • Cool video.

If you want to post some clips of sumo, it may be better to download a screen capture program, that way you can record video of what is happening directly from your laptop.

    Just a suggestion :)

  • good idea - I'll look into that when I get back to the States

  • That computer sound is like after putting it through noise reduction... that often leaves such a tinny impression.

  • I prefer stuff with your comments after all

  • Thx for sharing.

Yeah, you have to be a hardcore sumo fan to stay up till 2 am on the west coast to follow the yokozuna matches

  • One other problem with the live stream is that there is no way to go back and see a replay. It would be awesome if they could upload video clips of each match to the sumo website.

  • Yeah, the sumo association page stream is pretty lo-fi and has only ambient noise (no commentary.)

Also, once you get down to the business end of the day, you can have difficulty accessing the stream if you haven't already (for the last senshuuraku, I had to start streaming the stuff from 4pm on in order to guarantee not missing out on Harumafuji)
