Original Columbia Records #43396

Debut 11/20/65
Peaked at #1 for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Written by Paul Simon
Produced by Tom Wilson

From the Columbia LP "Wednesday Morning 3 A.M."

This is the "electric version" where Columbia Records took the original acoustic version as recorded by Simon & Garfunkel originally, and then added additional electric instruments including both a lead & bass guitar.

This electric version helped make this Simon & Garfunkel's first major hit!

This is also the original HOT MONO MIX that sounds much more powerful and superior compared to the very common thin, wimpy stereo version that is heard all the time on oldies radio.

  • Love this version, but can you by any chance re-upload this without using a volume compressor? Having the original dynamics would surly make this the best copy out there!

  • Sorry, but YouTube adds some of their own compression, as well as my video camera. Go to the Oldies Music Message Board and send me an E-Mail. Thanks! Spencer Morasch

  • @salchst a side by side comparison of 16bit CD audio vs a 24bit master? Like night and day. You've got the popularity of mp3s to blame, but there was a movement towards higher than 16bit CD fidelity at the start of the last decade, with the advent of DVD-A and SACD. But neither had great uptake.

  • @salchst not true.

Mastering is generally done either on tape or 24bit digtal file. CDs run at 16bit, and so music is dithered down to CDs from the master. You're not getting all the information at all.

Not to say that mp3s aren't a further approximation of the original, because they are.

Vinyl again, whilst an organic representation of the original due to being analog, still has a narrower dynamic range compared to the master; 24bit digital file or analog tape.

  • Thanks for this vid. the sound (of silence?) is wonderful, wonderfuuuul

  • such a creepy beautiful song

  • this is not from the album WENSDAY MORNING it is from the album of the same name BUT SOUNDS GREAT IN MONO ever read CSNY's 45 rpm record labels?

  • that snap crackle pop at the beggining and end of a record is like a bonus track to me :)

  • Only people with very small penises have disliked this.
