"Nobody felt safe; the prisoners weren't safe, the staff weren't safe...A radical idea began to spread: maybe meditation could help."

Psychotherapist Jenny Phillips describes how the tranquility of ancient Buddhist meditation at a maximum-security correctional facility helps prisoners emerge from a rigorous Vipassana program with a renewed self-image and a greater sense of personal responsibility.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

  • Sooo...how is the prisoners wonderful insights gained in meditation helping their damaged or dead victims? When I worked in a prison, the inmate wisdom to a newly locked up criminal was, "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime."

In other words, take responsibility for your actions, stop crying and expecting sympathy for committing a crime; be a man and do your time.

  • this is just like keran bedi and her tedtalks. such a great joy for me, that FINALLY ...

prisoners are being Taken Care of - as they Deserve. i just LOVE it.

  • Next time They'll make sure to meditate before doing a crime...

  • Great video!!!
