This is a video of quick look at the US magnesium, racquet type snowshoes.
It is an army surplus snowshoe and is commissioned after WWII. Frame made of magnesium, webbed with steel wire.

  • Those snowshoes offers very good value for money. They are also very rugged and almost indestructible without complex modern strapping systems. I bought mine last year.

It is a good snowshoe and I am very happy with it. I just noticed yesterday that some time on last trip, the tip of tail has chipped. Nothing serious, but was surprised to find that out.

Also, I was start to consider to cut the tail bit short.

I have been thinkin to shorten tails also, but haven´t done it cause longer tails don´t really bother that much. Going backwards is impossible anyway even with shorter tails.

I have one modern snowshoes where you can lock your heels to shoe when needed so you can easily lift whole shoe and going backwards and round around if you make small movements. I have noticed that very good when hunting and ambushing game there I need to round on my place for different shooting directions.
